Media, way before it was a capitalized plural noun or a multi-billion dollar industry, simply meant “a means or instrument.” A medium.

That’s really what we’re talking about here. A means for getting your message to more people than you can personally deliver by going door-to-door. Whether it’s multiplying the audience for a seminar, or a class, or a presentation, there are more ways available today to do so than ever before, and at incredibly low cost.

Here’s the trap: the “anyone-can-do-it!” egalitarianism of the internet has lured many organizations, and even companies, into devoting scarce resources to media projects. The fact is, no matter how simple it may seem to record an event and throw a video file on the web, or to post some audio, the effectiveness of doing so is another matter entirely.

A word on the site name: “amazing creative” is a somewhat “inside baseball” advertising term, where “creative” is a noun representing the content of an advertising or promotional campaign. When I was Creative Services Director for several of the Barnstable Broadcasting radio stations on Long Island, NY in the late 90’s, I would urge timid account executives to take a chance on approaching clients with samples of out-of-the-box campaigns - and always ecouraged them to “sell the creative.” It became something of a running joke - and at the same time, an approach that often led to success. So it’s not an ego trip, rather a reminder that often it’s the creative that sells - whether the mission is consumer product marketing, nonprofit awareness or fundraising, or one of the many other goals that creative use of media can help achieve.

Investigative Journalist Greg Palast needed to promote his pre-election reporting on potential disenfranchisement of voters nationwide.

In addition to scripting and editing informational vignettes such as the sample above and distributing them online, we produced radio versions as well.  Additional work included layout and design work on a “comic book” informational publication, building a dedicated microsite, (in association with the Avenging Angels Agency), developing a download-for-donations ecommerce solution, and deploying revisions and updates in real time.

Significant revenue was generated for the nonprofit Palast Investigative Fund.
